The Inauguration of Gerard J. Joyce, Ph.D.
The Mount St. Mary’s University community gathered on Saturday, April 12 to celebrate the inauguration of Gerard J. Joyce, Ph.D., as the 27th president of the university. The inauguration ceremony celebrated not only Joyce’s formal installation as president, but also his leadership and the university’s accomplishments since he joined the Mount in July 2024. Jake Cuzick is First Mount Undergrad Student to Win a NSF-GRFP Award
Senior Jake Cuzick, a chemistry major from Baker, Oregon, has become the first Mount St. Mary’s University undergraduate student to be named an awardee of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF-GRFP). The five-year fellowship includes three years of funding for graduate school as well as an annual stipend. This year the competition was even stiffer than usual because the number of winners was cut in half, from 2,000 or more in recent years to 1,000 in 2025. Senior Ford Rubel Is Awarded Critical Languages Scholarship
Senior Ford Rubel has become the first Mount St. Mary’s University student to receive a Critical Languages Scholarship. He will spend this summer fully immersed in studying Japanese in Okayama, Japan. The U.S. Department of State program provides fully funded immersive summer programs for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to learn languages of strategic importance to the United States’ national security, economic prosperity and engagement with the world. Women’s Lacrosse Clinches No. 1 Seed at MAAC Championship with 18-5 Win Over Merrimack
Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse clinched the #1 seed at the upcoming Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship and at least a share of the regular season title in convincing fashion, defeating Merrimack 18-5 Saturday at Waldron Family Stadium. As a result, the Mount receives a double bye for the MAAC Championship and will host the semifinals and finals in Emmitsburg starting on May 2.

Mount St. Mary’s Bowling Concludes ITC Run, Season with Top Six Finish
Three victories and a top six finish at the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships (ITC) put the punctuation mark on Mount St. Mary's bowling and their 2024-25 season. The 2024-25 squad matched the performance of the 2021-22 team, who posted wins over Duquesne, Delaware State, and McKendree at the ITC's. This was the Mount's third appearance at the event in program history.

Seminary Benefactors Dinner
On April 6, Mount St. Mary's Seminary hosted the annual benefactors dinner to express sincere gratitude to the generous benefactors whose unwavering support helps the seminary to continue its mission in forming future priests for the Church. Throughout the evening, benefactors received updates on the seminary and university by Rector Msgr. Andrew Baker and President Gerard Joyce, Ph.D. Deacon Andy Barnes, president of 4th theology, offered the prayer and toast. They also heard vocation stories from Deacon Clark Stiteler and Deacon Matthey Kelly. Msgr. Baker was very surprised when Archbishop William E. Lori announced the seminary veranda was being named in his honor. The plaque reads: The Msgr. Andrew R. Baker Veranda in Honor of His Exceptional Dedication and Loyal Commitment to the Seminary, serving as Rector/Vice President 2015-25.View photos from the benefactors dinner.

May Crowning at the National Shrine Grotto
Plan to attend this year’s traditional May Crowning at the National Shrine Grotto on Sunday, May 4! Seminary Rector Msgr. Andrew R. Baker, S.T.D., will celebrate the noon Mass at the Grotto Cave followed by a rosary procession to the Miller Family Visitor Center where President Gerard J.
